Creating something great is the easy part of being an entrepreneur. The hard part is making it known to customers, and getting them excited about your product. It is a hurdle most startups face.
For May, Phandeeyar Accelerator’s Startup Meetup explored how you can get the first 1,000 users for your startup. Our speakers Wai Yan Lin, CEO of Rebbiz, Honey Mya Win, CEO of Chate Sat, and Aung Ye Kyaw, CEO of White Merak, shared their experiences and insights with the audience. Here are some of the highlights:
Know your target audience. Knowing who you’re selling your product or service to is crucial. By knowing who are willing to buy your product, you can do proper market research on them. You can easily get answers to questions such as: How old are they? What are their likes and dislikes? How much are they willing to spend? How much can they spend? Where can you find them?
Tactics on approaching your target audience. Once you’ve identified your customers and have done research on their behaviors and characteristics, you can decide on how you and your startup can reach them. Where can you find your customers? What kind of events or places do they like to go to frequently? Aung Ye Kyaw of White Merak promotes his entertainment platform by going to local anime and cosplay events. Honey Mya Win distributes Chate Sat pamphlets at Phandeeyar events, as well as other local tech and business meetups and events.
Experiment! There is no right or wrong way to approach your target audience. If you find that promoting through one channel (e.g. Facebook) is not enough, try promoting through others!
