Phandeeyar Accelerator, Myanmar’s first-ever tech startup accelerator, today announced the launch of “Game Dev Challenge” at Phandeeyar’s downtown innovation lab. Game Dev Challenge is an event that gathers professional and beginner game designers, programmers, and artists for 8 days of inspiration, and networking for the game development community.
Game Dev Challenge is a joint event by Phandeeyar: Myanmar Innovation Lab and Save In Your Brain Entertainment, a game development and entertainment company which entertains with advance technology, and MAGES Creative Technology Centre (MCTC), an education institution from Singapore that is based in Yangon that provides high quality tertiary level coaching and skill-set for the game designers, animators, and creative computing experts. The 8-day event, which was held from 18 November until 25 November, gathered participants, who were primarily between 18 to 21 years old, from Myanmar’s tech, creative, and game developer communities to come together at Phandeeyar: Myanmar Innovation Lab in Yangon, and work on creating their very own game.
Participants came with a range of fresh ideas, from third-person shooters, to classic arcade-style games. Game Dev Challenge offered workshops that covered a range of areas in game development, support the development of their business models, as well as one-on-one coaching lessons by the CEOs and mentors of Save In Your Brain Entertainment and MCTC.
On the last day of the competition, 10 teams showcased their games to a crowd of proud parents, news outlets, and to a panel of esteem judges which included industry professionals such as Ko Chit Ko Ko from Kodots Gaming Studios.
The winner of the competition, SiriKsetra Gaming, took home 500 USD in prize money, as well as raw number of online Unity3D courses. The first and second runner-ups, also received Unity3D courses to further improve their game development skills.
