RUN THE FIRST STARTUP ACCELERATOR IN MYANMAR
Phandeeyar has been spearheading the development of Myanmar’s tech and innovation ecosystem since 2014. In 2016 Phandeeyar launched Myanmar’s first-ever tech startup Accelerator. Cohort 1 graduated earlier this year and applications for Cohort 2 open in June. Phandeeyar also created a pre-accelerator program, the Yangon chapter of Silicon Valley’s Founder Institute. We also run the country’s biggest startup competition: StartUp Challenge. Phandeeyar is also building the developer community through MOOCs, workshops, meetups and other events, as well as supporting hardware hackers through its Makerspace.
Phandeeyar is looking for a talented manager who has experience with technology startups to serve as our Accelerator Manager. The Accelerator Manager will work closely with the Accelerator Director and will help execute all of Phandeeyar’s entrepreneurship programs. This includes Phandeeyar Accelerator, tech entrepreneurship training program, and civic tech and social innovation lab. Your job will be to help ensure Phandeeyar remains a key driver of the tech startup ecosystem in Myanmar.
Key responsibilities include:
Management skills – You’re awesome at getting things done. You’re a self-starter who takes the initiative and can mobilize resources and solve problems. You can build and manage a team, juggle multiple projects, craft partnerships, manage negotiations, whilst paying close attention to details.
Entrepreneurial experience – You must have some entrepreneurial experience, ideally with a tech startup and preferably as a Founder. An understanding of the lean startup approach and the unique challenges faced by tech entrepreneurs is important. Knowledge of the Myanmar startup community would be valuable.
Communications – You’re an excellent communicator with great written and spoken English and Myanmar. You’re as comfortable speaking to a crowd or a classroom as you are to the press or an investor.
Mentoring & training skills – You will be great at working one on one with tech founders, as well as helping them work with others. You’ll also be able to develop and run tech entrepreneurship programs. Teaching or training experience would be very valuable.
Passion – Phandeeyar is trying to accelerate change and development in Myanmar. It works not just with the tech community, but with change agents such as civil society groups, social enterprises and independent media. You must be excited to use your skills to help those working on socially driven initiatives.
